The JQMQld (Junior Quarter Midgets Queensland) was started in 2009 and incorporated in 2010.

The JQMQld was started to encourage the future development and growth of Quarter Midget Racing in the State of Queensland.

We have had a very successful start with over 25 cars already racing with club. We have a purpose built club track at Brisbane International Speedway (Archerfield) and anticipate racing at BIS approximately every 3 weeks.

The sport involves racing in specially prepared ¼ midget race cars. The cars, rules and safety procedures are designed specifically for kids ages 5 through to 16 yrs.

They race on oval tracks between 80 and 120 meters in length. Safety features include full roll cages, multi-point seat harnesses, full-face helmets, and complete fireproof race suits. The sport prides itself on safety considerations and has fewer injuries than junior football. Junior Quarter Midgets Australia (National Body) is constantly reviewing and evaluating safety rules to ensure that quarter midget racing remains a safe competitive sport.

The racing environment is about children and family. Not only do kids learn valuable skills and sportsmanship, but they also make new friends. Mum and Dad will make new friends too.

Quarter Midgets... A Quarter Midget is a ¼ scale version of an actual open wheel midget racer. The cars are built around a chrome-moly tubular frame including anti intrusion bars and kick-outs, to stop wheel interference. They are fully suspended with springs or torsion bars and shock dampening.

The bodies consist of fibreglass and aluminium, and painted to the driver’s preference. They are powered by a Honda single cylinder air-cooled 4-cycle engine and produce 5.5 horsepower.

The Road to Indy... The whole concept of Quarter Midget Racing in Australia is not only to offer families a great sport, but can provide children with a great grounding in Oval track racing here or possibly America, even one day in becoming the next Australian to race the Indianapolis 500.

The JQMA close association with the United States Auto Club (USAC) and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway allows a great path of guidance for those who aspire to achieve higher goals in this great sport.
